Raven Smith
Raven Smith is an award-winning artist and creative director based in Chicago whose work explores human consciousness, emotion, cinematography, curiosity, and immersive experiences. She began her formal training at The Chicago High School for the Arts, further developed her practice through After School Matters programs, and earned her BFA from School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2022.
Her practice moves between emotionally driven works and cinematic, thematic world-building. One side of her work examines color psychology and the emotional relationships humans attach to color. These pieces often feature monochromatic palettes, layered textures, and double-exposure effects that evoke intense emotional states and introspection. In contrast, other works transport viewers into fictional fantasies and immersive visual narratives disconnected from reality, drawing heavily from cinematography, atmosphere, and escapism.
Since 2016, Raven has produced private commissions and exhibited work at notable venues including Navy Pier during EXPO CHICAGO, the Museum of Science and Industry for Black Creativity, and the New York Academy of Art. Her work has also extended into public art, including a sculpture installation in Chicago’s Oakland community.
In 2024, Raven launched her immersive art brand, ESCAPADE Exhibitions, debuting a multidisciplinary experience that merged visual and culinary art through a six-course tasting experience paired with 30 original paintings. Through ESCAPADE Exhibitions, she continues to develop immersive experiences that encourage collaboration across artistic disciplines while expanding the boundaries of contemporary art engagement.
